Step Back to Move Forward: Why Entrepreneurs Need Space to Recharge

Entrepreneurship is exciting, innovative, and rewarding — but it’s also demanding. Deadlines, decisions, and constant juggling can take a toll on your wellbeing. Many entrepreneurs push through stress, forgetting that their mental health is a critical part of business success.

Last week, I caught up with Camille Reltien who is our guest speaker for our upcoming Recharge & Realign Business Growth Workshop is designed to help founders pause, reflect, and reconnect with what really matters — for themselves and their business.

From Brilliant Minds to Stressed Founders

Camille knows this challenge intimately. After working at Imperial College London’s Enterprise Lab, she noticed a recurring theme:

“Every day I met brilliant minds, passionate about bringing their innovations into the world. But many weren’t just asking about their businesses. They wanted to talk about stress, about pressure, about the responsibility they were carrying. I wanted to do more than just nod along.”

This insight led her to become a certified coach, focusing on helping entrepreneurs manage both their mindset and wellbeing — not just their business strategy.

“Up until recently, there was little discussion about the toll entrepreneurship takes on mental health. Little research, and even less support. I believe we can make more solid businesses and happier entrepreneurs by dismantling the stories that keep us silent.”

When Tunnel Vision Takes Over

Entrepreneurs often get caught in “tunnel vision,” obsessing over deadlines, tasks, or challenges while neglecting perspective and creativity.

“When I’m stressed, my world becomes narrow — the looming deadline, the neighbour, the one annoying problem. Everything else falls away. But if I go into nature, talk to a friend, or step outside with my daughter, the tunnel opens up. On return, nothing has changed, but I have. I have perspective.”

“The funny thing is, the more anxious or stressed you feel, the more your brain tells you to tie yourself to the mast and push through. But often the opposite is what you need — distance, breathing space, and the chance for your mind to wander.”

Pause to Power Up

Reflection isn’t indulgence — it’s strategy.

“You are the most important resource in your business. People underestimate this. Making space for reflection and recharge isn’t indulgence — it’s strategy.”

When founders take time to pause and reflect, they make better decisions, generate creative solutions, and avoid burnout. Participants in Camille’s sessions often report:

“Doing nothing for an hour might be the most productive thing I do all week. I can step back without guilt or judgement and return with clarity.”
